Lake County
Youth Ice Hockey Association is a member USA Hockey, the Amateur Hockey Association
of Illinois (AHAI), Central States Development Hockey League (CSDHL),
and the Northern Illinois Hockey League (NIHL). Experienced and dedicated coaches provide excellent
instruction in skill development, team play and sportsmanship.
If
you are an experienced player or have never been on the ice, join
us and have the time of your life! Hockey is the only sport in the
world that is almost as much fun to practice as it is to play!
As the premier youth ice hockey association in
Northern Lake County, we have programs for all levels of talent
and experience. Programs offered include:
Choosing a Right Program for You
As the Atoms continue to expand, many choices are available to
it's members. A guide to assist you in determining which
program(s) may be right for your child is being developed. By
outlining the offerings of each program you will be able to enjoy
the rewards offered through hockey.
Instructional
Hockey
- Our
Partnership in Hockey program with Rink Side Sports provide
instruction in the basics of ice hockey, including essential skating
skills such as turning and stopping, as well as shooting, passing,
and puck handling.
- Schedules

House League
Hockey
- Our
Partnership in Hockey program with Rink Side Sports provides
players (ages 4-14) a chance to participate in competitive
hockey games.
- Instruction
and competitive ice hockey experience in team practices and games.
Emphasis is on strengthening ice hockey skills and developing
team play with participation by all players at appropriate age
and skill levels.
- Develop
individual and game skills
- Usually
one practice and one game each weekend.
- Games are
with other House League teams or other local area clubs.
- Program
runs from September to March
- No checking
at Mite and Squirt levels.
Travel Hockey
- Ages 4-18
- Instruction
and competitive ice hockey experience for more committed players
at appropriate age and skill levels to permit development of improved
individual ice hockey skills and more intense team play experience.
- Usually
two practices and one game each week.
- Games with
other AHAI, CSDHL and NIHL member clubs.
- Program
runs from September to March.
- Team enrollment
and level of play (Gold, Silver, Bronze) may vary.
- Tournaments
may be available for the Atoms registered travel teams from time
to time during the year.
Hockey Skills Clinics
Special instructional
clinics in power skating, goalie training and other hockey skills
will be offered from time to time. The Atoms reserve the right to
require any player to obtain any instruction necessary or appropriate
to the safety and health of the player and other team members.
Spring and Summer Hockey
The Atoms organize formal tryouts and sponsor teams during the
Spring Hockey Season. These teams are comprised of players
from both Rink Side House and Atoms Travel programs. Players outside of
the Atoms programs are eligible to participate when spots are
available.
